Satyricon - South American Tour Announced

Norwegian black metallers Satyricon have scheduled a string of live dates in Mexico, South and Central America. The tour will take place in late October/early November. Get the list of dates after the jump.

In late 2009, Satyricon announced that it was planning to take a break following the completion of the group's most recent headlining European tour. Satyricon vocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven later told Terrorizer.com that the band's December 20, 2009 concert in London, England would mark the beginning of a new phase in the group's evolution.

"From then on, there are going to be a lot of changes in the Satyricon camp," he said. "After we take a long touring break and come back a couple of years later, certain people may not be with us any longer. Although we won't be doing anything overly dramatic, we'll be trying quite a few different things, which I think is going to be really good for Satyricon. The reason we're doing that is so we can continue to develop our sound. At the moment we are still enjoying what we do, but if that continues any longer it'll undoubtedly stagnate, so we need to ensure that doesn't happen. And moving in different musical directions is definitely a good way to go about it."

Satyricon - Mexico/South/Central America Tour:

Oct. 28 - Mexico City, Mexico - Circo Volador
Oct. 29 - San Salvador, El Salvador - Jar Rock
Oct. 30 - San José, Costa Rica - Pepper's Club
Nov. 01 - Bogotá, Colombia - Teatro Metro
Nov. 03 - Santiago, Chile - TBA
Nov. 04 - Montevideo, Uruguay - La Trastienda Club
Nov. 05 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Teatro Flores
Nov. 06 - São Paulo, Brazil - Hangar 110

Martyr [NL] - Busy Recording New Album

Reunited Dutch Speed metal band Martyr are in the middle of recording their new as-yet-untitled album, to be released around May 2011.

Currently five songs have been recorded at Jack's Pace Studio, Belgium with producer Jack Nobelen (Horizon, Savage, Stilletto). Five more songs are to be recorded in the first two months of next year, and will be far more heavy and up tempo compared to the earlier 2CD release Fear The Universe (released in 2009 through Rusty Cage Records).

In related news, the band is also switching to another record company in between, before they will hit the stage in Europe in March again (including an appearance at Up The Hammers Fest VI in Greece).

Because Martyr does not want to have their fans waiting too long before any new material will see the light of day, they have pre-released a brand new track, called "Circle Of 8". Watch the video below.

Satyricon - Begin Work On New Album

Close to a year ago, Satyricon announced they were taking a short break. Well, the band's hibernation is now over. Moreover, Satyricon announced today they will start working on a new record any time soon. Here's the full message:

"Our off year is coming to an end and in a few months time we will start writing for a new album. We are feeling fresh and charged. In 2011 we will re-release all albums from the nineties with updated art work and re-mastering where it is needed. There might even be some interesting shows to go with it!

Unfortunately we never had the opportunity to visit Russia with The Age Of Nero, until now that is. Therefore we are pleased to announce shows in St Petersburg and Moscow in December."

Satyricon - Taking A Break At The End Of The Year

In an interview at the beginning of November, Satyr told Terrorizer.com that Satyricon's London show on 20 December is "not just the last gig of the tour. It's also the beginning of a new phase in the evolution of the band. From then on, there are going to be a lot of changes in the Satyricon camp. After we take a long touring break and come back a couple of years later, certain people may not be with us any longer. And moving in different musical directions is definitely a good way to go about it." Read the full article here.

In response to the speculations and gossip, Satyricon released the following statement a couple of days ago: "Let's try and bring some clarity to the rumours that have been circulating lately. Although The Age Of Nero is now a year old, the project is still very much alive to us as we've been working it more or less non-stop for almost three years. The last 12 months since release has been spent relentlessly touring and the fortunate success of the album has taken us to India, Australia, Japan, twice to America, across Europe and around Scandinavia and now we head out on the "Finale In Black" tour [with Shining and Dark Fortress], which will mark the end of the colossal The Age Of Nero project.

Once we have done that, we feel the time is right to take a break. A break where we can rest, get some perspective, work on other musical projects and non-musical projects and allow ourselves to figure out Satyricon's next move. We have some ideas on what we want to do next and one of them is to open a new musical chapter. It has never been in this bands nature to rest on our laurels and we won't be doing that either. When the time is right, we will start working on exploring new musical territory and only the future can tell what that will turn into. Taking on challenges like that is something Satyricon never has been afraid of. On the contrary, it is what has made the band grow. We tried to perfect everything Satyricon has learnt and experienced musically for the last decade on The Age Of Nero and we feel that we reached the goal we set out to achieve. It is time to pave way for something new. No, we won't return to something old. Forget it! All we know is that regardless of what we end up doing, it will still sound unmistakably like Satyricon.

SIG:AR:TYR - New Album Details And New Song Online

The following update was issued on the SIG:AR:TYR's MySpace blog:

"I've been hard at work over the last several months on the third full-length SIG:AR:TYR album. I'm about 2/3 of the way done, and still aiming to be completed by the end of summer.

The new album will be called "Godsaga". Its theme centers around the concept of man transforming into a god, and Odin's sacrifice on the world tree Yggdrasil. This album is not a linear concept album such as "Sailing The Seas Of Fate", but each song deals with these similar themes.

Expect a darker, heavier, more intense and focused album, while still delivering the traditional SIG:AR:TYR hallmarks of previous works."

"Godsaga" tracklist:

01. Nights All Nine
02. Midwinter Sacrifice
03. Blood Of The North
04. Black Sun's Bane
05. Eternal Return
06. Sleep Of The Sword
07. Sonatorrek
08. Godsaga
09. Distant Northern Shore

In other news, I've been asked to put together a playlist of Viking/Folk metal songs for the Blood Eagle Radio podcast show. I hope to play some of my favourites, but also a few more obscure tracks from bands that I think deserve more attention.

As an added bonus, to give everyone a taste of what is to come, we will also be playing a brand new track from the upcoming "Godsaga" album! Stay tuned for news on when this podcast will be released.

Hails to you all this Midsummer,
Till next time,
Daemonskald"

Two days ago, Daemonskald added: "The latest podcast of Blood Eagle Radio is now up, featuring a playlist of some of my favourite pagan/viking/folk metal bands, including a few fellow Canadian bands. At the end of the show is the premiere of a brand new SIG:AR:TYR track "Blood Of The North" from the forthcoming album."

Fallen Martyr - New EP Out, Songs Streaming

Official press release

Fallen Martyr's eagerly awaited EP, "The Six Roots of True Will," has been released on the band's website. Due to popular demand for their live show, the band was invited to debut songs from their EP on the main stage of what promises to be the most extreme U.S. tour of the year, the Summer Slaughter Tour. Additional tour dates on the East Coast will follow.

Inspired by the classic work of Dream Theater, Testament and Arch Enemy, the band also draws upon the progressive influence of Opeth to deliver a new sound. Lead guitarist, Gabriel, describes Fallen Martyr as a band without inhibitions, freely melting the forms of metal into artwork that cannot be replicated or replayed in less than five minutes on the stage.

"Metal is starting to sound the same now-a-days. I don't want to define a genre. I want to start my own. That's how I've always felt," Gabriel said. "It's all about challenging and pushing yourself, and in that aspect we take pride in ourselves."

As the ranks of metal bands continue to break into the mainstream today, the underground band, Fallen Martyr is rapidly shredding through a growing number of speakers cranked to capacity. After completely forming as a band of five, the songs on the EP came naturally to the band. It only took a few more live shows for fans in Baltimore's Sonar Nightclub, to vote Fallen Martyr onto the main stage of the Summer Slaughter Tour for a show.

The band's singer, Ryan, from the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, uses crushing screams and carefully timed melodic interludes to help every song naturally rise and fall. Gabriel, one of the band's founding members, duals with the second lead guitarist, Mikey, to add cascading solo assaults to every song. The music is propelled by the powerful drumming of Jake, and the band's second founding member, Doug, on the bass.

"We are all different and have certain extremes that are different than the other... but we just click and we balance each other out," Gabriel said. "We don't do something singularly... we aren't just a death metal band, we aren't just a thrash band - we aren't just one thing. We play what we like to hear and it turns out sounding like this.

SIG:AR:TYR - Update From The Band

Posted by frontman Daemonskald on the official MySpace site:

"I've been busy the last few months and have completed two songs already for the next album. I will release more details on the new album as things become more concrete. I hope to get it out fairly quickly before the end of the year, as "Beyond The North Winds" has done very well and received great reviews, and I want to capitalize on the momentum.

I also took the time to record a cover song (after I swore I would never do one, never say never I suppose...). It is for the Valhalla Productions Bathory tribute, which is only viking-era Bathory songs. I decided to do "Song to Hall Up High", as I don't think its a song that's really been covered much, and I was able to do something a little different with it. There is no point in doing a cover song if all you are going to do is re-do the original. I have no idea what's going on with Valhalla, and if this tribute will see the light of day. If not, I'm sure the song will get MySpace'd here or tagged on to the next album or a re-release of my older albums.

A lot of people have been writing about the availability of "Sailing The Seas of Fate" and the demo "The Stranger". Only a 1000 of "Sailing..." were made, and only 100 of "The Stranger" and you can find them at the odd distro here and there. We are hoping to re-release "Sailing The Seas of Fate" this year, as long as finances permit because of all the requests. Such is life in the underground!"

Evile - Guitarist Fractures Jaw, Band Leaves Satyricon Tour

Earache Records press release

Ol Drake, lead guitarist of UK thrashers Evile fractured his jaw last night (Wednesday November 19) after the band's show in Rotterdam, Netherlands supporting Satyricon.

Evile frontman Matt Drake comments: "Ol collapsed last night and fractured his jaw and split his chin on the ground. Luckily his beard absorbed some of the blow. He's been in hospital and had X-rays and been stitched up, but he's unable to play - he can't really move - he's a mess. Ol doesn't drink, it seems to be some medical problem that's being investigated. They did an ECG and we're awaiting results. Unfortunately we're having to pull out of the tour to get home to the UK where Ol can recuperate and have some follow-up tests.

We apologise to all our fans and to anyone planning to see us at the shows. As you can imagine we're devastated we can't play, but Ol's health comes first and that's currently our priority. We will update our fans through the MySpace with news when we're back home. We won't be on any of the Satyricon tour from today."

Evile plan to resume touring duties in 2009. Keep up-to-date with news on Ol Drake's condition by checking for updates on the band's MySpace page.
