Reflexion - Part Ways With Drummer

Finnish metallers Reflexion have issued the following update on their official website:

"As the result of many discussions, tears and beers, we have come to the decision that we need a new drummer for Reflexion. This was the biggest and hardest decision in our band's history, but it was made in good spirit and without bad blood.

The root cause of all of this dates back to a year and a half ago. Since then, our long-term drummer and dear friend Ari-Matti "Reiska" Pohjola has been suffering from a still undiagnosed injury in his back and right hand.

About one year ago we decided that we would start to record our third album on summer 2009. At that point everything seemed to be fine. During the year, we played a couple of gigs and we already got signs that Reiska's hand was not working properly, although it still didn't prevent him from playing. In the spring, when we started to rehearse new songs and record demos, Reiska's hand still wasn't right.

We moved the studio session ahead for three weeks but during that time Reiska's hand only got worse and we had to find another solution. We discussed possible solutions and came to a decision to use a session drummer for the studio and try to put Reiska back on the line one way or another. Juha suggested that maybe we should contact his friend and old colleague Tonmi Lillman. We had very good luck in that we managed to get Tonmi to play the drums for the album.

After the album recordings, Reiska's hand and back were still in a bad shape. We had already had some gigs confirmed for next year and we should start to rehearse soon. It was quite a confusing situation and we thought about every possible solution. As an outcome, we came to a decision that we cannot continue in such an uncertain state and all agreed that the best thing for the future of the band is to find a new drummer for Reflexion.

This didn't come easily but we are very happy that we still remain friends. We're all looking forward to see Reiska's hand in a shape that he could continue to play the drums and as well do the other things that are important to him.

Yours sincerely,
Juha, Juhani, Ilkka, Reiska and Mikko"

Sabaton - Working On New Album

Sabaton have offered the following update:

"Finally the time has come to make another album. Many people have asked us if it will be another album with war themes, and of course it will. The lyrics based on historical battles has become the mark of Sabaton and we plan not to leave that, at least for now.

And like on the last album we will now ask all of you fans out there if you have any ideas to help us write the album. So, any ideas for songs about battles can be sent to newalbum sabaton net, please include links to informations and facts also. Every idea will be read and considered but please remember that Sabaton is mainly focused on more recent events so please do not ask us to write songs a bout vikings, knights... Other bands do that better than us. Please come with ideas that is more unknown, the perfect concept for a song were the story of the 720 Polish soldiers who inspired us to write the song "40:1". We await your ideas."

Metallica - Live DVD Details Announced

Details for the new Metallica live DVD have surfaced:

"On July 7th of this year we were honored to perform at Arenes de Nimes, the historic Roman amphitheatre in Nimes, France, easily one of the most spectacular venues in the world. We thought it would be a memorable night, so we asked our friends in France to bring along a film crew to document the festivities. The result is "Francais Pour Une Nuit" (translation: "French For One Night"), the DVD of the evening including the full show, interviews with us, and five videos shot by YOU, our buddies in the audience. All this and more will be available starting November 23, 2009!

"Francais Pour Une Nuit" was extra special for us because not only was it filmed in France, but ALL aspects of the project are French as the show was filmed, recorded, and edited with French camera and recording crews, the artwork on the package and special box set (more on that in a minute!) were created by a French design team; even the credits are in French. The only non-French parts: the three Americans and one Dane on stage and the photos shot by Englishman Ross Halfin.

The DVD will be available in retail stores in France only, at http://www.metallica.com, or you may order online through the record company at http://www.metallicanimes.com. There will be three formats available: Standard DVD in a digipack including a 16 page booklet, Blu-Ray DVD, also in a digipack with the booklet, and the deluxe limited edition box set (it's actually a tin) that includes the DVD, a copy of "Death Magnetic on CD," a T-shirt, laminated pass, and five exclusive photos."

A DVD trailer can be found at this location.

"Francais Pour Une Nuit" cover art] tracklist:

01. Blackened

End Of You - Have Entered The Studio

A few days ago, Finnish rock band End Of You has entered the studio to record their third studio album called "Remains Of The Day".

The band states: "After writing and demo-ing songs for the last 8-9 months, we have returned to the studio to record 14 brand new tracks. Our batteries are fully charged and we are extremely excited to let you all hear the new stuff. The material itself is a mixture of heavy guitars, shitload of electronics & keyboards and atmospheres as well as lots of groove-oriented stuff and represents the sound of a more heavier yet quite pop-qualified End Of You.

Compared to the last albums, the recordings will be kept completely in our own hands and we will be working with ourselves as Johnny B and Jami Pietilä will produce the album. All instruments will be tracked at the bands own brand new studio in Helsinki under Johnny B's supervision who will also mix the album. During the recording process we will keep you all updated on the progress via EOU-TV."

Possible release date and more details to be announced soon.

Dark Funeral - New Album Title, Tracklist And Cover Art Revealed

Original news, posted on 31.08.2009

Dark Funeral guitarist Lord Ahriman has issued the following studio update:

"Peter Tägtgren is currently mixing our new album at his Abyss Studios. Once we have approved the final mix, Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry) will be mastering it. By listening to the rough-mix, the final production will kill totally, no doubt! Can't wait to blast the final result in the stereo!

We decided to go for a bit rawer sound this time, and not as crystal clear and perhaps polished as our last album , but no worries. The production still holds the high quality that you would come to expect from us. We haven't done "a Metallica" so to say!

During the last weekend we spent at the Abyss Studio we recorded a video for one of the new tracks. The video was shot in and outside an old and closed mental hospital. The environment was just killer. And besides, it suited the video theme perfect! The video is currently under editing by "Standard Film Team". And within the next 2-3 weeks it should be ready for world premiere. However, due to the graphic violence and somewhat gory nature of the video, I would assume that we will be forced to edit 2 versions, one soft and one hard core version. Exactly how and where we'll release them is yet to be decided though, but we will keep you posted about it of course. The video was shot for a track called "My Funeral".

Now you may wonder what the album will be called. Well, here is another "exclusive" for you... "Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus". Estimated release date is set to November 18th."

UPDATED, on 16.09.2009

Official press release

Swedish black metallers Dark Funeral, the Ineffable Kings of Darkness, and one of the biggest bands today has finalized more details on their upcoming album. They are finally ready to reveal the full track listing of their brand new album, "Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus"!

The new masterpiece, which is set for a November 18th 2009 release via Regain Records, was recorded at Abyss Studio in Grangärde (Sweden) with famed engineer and legendary producer Peter Tägtgren (Pain, Hypocrisy). It includes a total of 9 songs. Musically it is the bands most technical and varied album to date. Leng Tch'e - Studio Update, First Songtitles Revealed

Leng Tch'e are at the halfway mark of the mixing process for our next album so the band figured it would be time to give you guys a little update on how things are going here amidst the rustic scenery of Kettering, UK. The update reads as follows:

"After a seven hour drive across three countries we arrived at Parlour Studio to be greeted by our gracious host Russ Russell. A quick trip to the local supermarket later to stock up on basic supplies (designer water and baby oil) we were back at the studio and setting up our gear so Russ could start dialing in the brutal deathmetal sounds from hell. Towards the evening we settled on a duo of guitar amps - no we're not gonna tell you which ones - and the rest of the night was spent re-amping the guitar lines we recorded back in Belgium. It must be said that Mr Russell is one of the most dedicated and hard working producers we've ever met. And a funny little hairy bastard as well.

The next day we looked for a bass sound and once again Russ was floored by the awesomeness of our gear. Fuck yeah! In the evening we went down to London to catch a Burnt By The Sun show which was pretty fucking awesome, despite the amps acting all English and breaking down every other song. Friday and Saturday we worked on the vocals, in the meantime getting fat and lazy on a steady diet of veggie dogs and obscure English beers. So now it's Sunday, we're even fatter and lazier than when we got here after devouring a ridiculous amount of Chinese food yesterday and Russ has started on the mix of the first songs.

To lift part of the veil, here are some (working) song titles with a short musical description:

"Worldwide Genocide": Probably the opening song. Begins with a fast (surprise!) grind riff followed by a hardrock riff. Why? Because we can.

"Wirehead Imbeciles": Starts out as a grind song and then breaks down into a moshing doom riff if that makes any sense, followed by a swinging d-beat part.

"A.men": Short but sweet grind song with a catchy as fuck hardcore chorus.

And then there's the 9 minute final opus... no we're not kidding this time. This song has a groovy intro, about a minute of grindcore mayhem, a heavy deathmetal riff, a bunch of swinging I-don't-know-what-to-call-them riffs, finally ending in a seemingly neverending spiral of crushing doom.

And that's a fact!"

Floor Jansen - Is Starting A New Metal Band

Original news, posted on 17.06.2009

Floor Jansen, lead vocalist of the now-defunct band After Forever, has announced the through her myspace page that she has started a new metal band. Due to her new commitment in this band, her project with Jorn Viggo (Pagan's Mind), Sinh, has been put on hold to give the new metalband full priority. The information of the line-up and name of Floor's new metal project has yet to be released.

The complete message reads as follows: "It's been a bumpy year so far and I would like to update you a little. Unfortunately my band After Forever stopped and that meant the start of a new period. Looking back I realize how many great and amazing things I got to do and that inspires me to go full speed ahead with new music. Hereby an update about what I do today and what my plans for the future are:

After the final stop I started missing the metal scene and it's music and decided I wanted to come back ASAP with a new metalband. To accomplish this I want to work with other songwriters to first write and record an album. A live band will be formed after that to get me back on stage where I long to be so much!

When Waldemar Sorychta (Grip Inc., Enemy Of The Sun, ao) contacted me; the first composer was found. As a fan of Grip Inc. the idea of working together was a big honour and a first step in creating a sound! The combination of Waldemar's unique style and experience as songwriter/producer made my dream come closer to reality. I also asked my After Forever colleague Joost van den Broek for his great synth sounds and arrangements. Despite his busy schedule he wanted to come on board immediately with great enthusiasm and the songwriting team was complete!

The sound will become a unique blend of the personal style we know these musicians from, but not yet together in one album which is to become heavy and very metal!

The songwriting has just begun! Who will join this team in the future is not known yet nor which label will release the album. All we can say for now; next year there will be new band and a new album!

I will keep updating you and I promise to give you a preview as soon as possible!"

UPDATE (thanks to 33700)

Floor Jansen has finally announced the name of her new band. In a short message on her MySpace, Jansen states: "The name of my new band is finally revealed! It's... ReVamp. Check out the new website: http://www.revampmusic.com."

Songs are currently being written and some short samples will soon uploaded to the website.

Cradle Of Filth - Update From Dani

Dani has posted a lengthy blog on his myspace page. The blog states that Cradle Of Filth have started working on a new album with "the skeletal structures of a few songs laid out", sounding "very much like the 'Godspeed...' album thrust up a gear".

He once again emphasises how stupid it was to sell such "candy balls" at this year's Bloodstock Open Air, regarding the incident that happened.

And also reminds us that his new book five years in the making, "The Gospel Of Filth" is finally ready to ore-order from the band's website.

--

The full message can be read here:

Greetings to all you merchants of menace and skinny villainesses, Dani here again with a belated update on all things fantastic and filthy;

At the time of writing, September is almost through, with skies fire-paved and a gorgeous Indian Summer settling like a phoenix on the East coast of England, the last few weeks finding me extremely busy with the trivialities of being at home and working in a band at the same time. Thus creativity has flourished under this wonderful boon and the first ideas for a new Cradle album have started to creep and crawl in the far-flung shadows of our combined imaginations. Bearing in mind we have merely the skeletal structures of a few songs laid out, that Autumnal vibe is already spreading like a mist, and the tunes are sounding very malefic indeed. Very much like the 'Godspeed...' album thrust up a gear.

Paul has moved to a luxury apartment on the dockside quay in Ipswich, the apocalyptic vision of a reddened sun split by the thin silhouettes of bobbing yacht masts, highly inspirational, tempering his writing with furious abandonment. In the meantime Martin is hard at work on his practice kit back in the Czech Republic, providing the midi backbone to Paul's initial structures, which are then later embellished by guitars and keyboards. Luckily Dave lives in spitting distance of Paul's new gaff, so he's in partnership with the basic skeleton of every track, which is then flown past Ashley (who has just moved this week from Phoenix to LA...), who then goes all symphonic on it's rugged ass. Things therefore are moving well towards our new, as-yet-untitled album, with a possible studio start date of early January to be ringed in all gothic diaries. Bring it on!

Now I think everybody got to hear about the stupid happenings at this year's Bloodstock with the kilo weight candy balls and the cancelled set, so much so this will be the last thing I'll say about it. Period. It's just a crying shame that some idiot ruined for so many people, least of all and very selfishly, me, as it was the last of our Summer festival run, it was on home turf and friends and family were present. Plus the weather was damn near perfect and there was a really cool vibe amongst people as the sun slunk towards our headline set. Aside from the fact that Paul, in really bad pain, had to be whisked to hospital for a body scan, two children, one of whom was handicapped, were almost hit by these deadly projectiles. And who the hell sells these things at a fucking festival anyway? Stupid beyond belief.

Hypocrisy - Recruited Children Of Bodom Mainman As Tour Guitarist

Hypocrisy have enlisted the help of Children Of Bodom guitarist/frontman Alexi Laiho for their upcoming North American tour.

Alexi has agreed to temporarily fill the currently vacant guitarist spot on their tour alongside Ensiferum, Hypocrisy, Ex Deo, Blackguard and Swashbuckle.

Hypocrisy mainman Peter Tägtgren commented: "We're very happy to bring Alexi along on this tour and that he's helping us out with filling the 2nd guitarist position. Funny, the first Children Of Bodom show was a support gig for Hypocrisy. Since then me and Alexi have become very good friends. I've helped him with producing and he's helped me by contributing a guitar solo on one of my records with my other band Pain. There will be no shortage of alcohol on this tour that's for sure."
