"Screams And Whispers" is the fourth and last album USA (St. Louis) based prog/thrash band Anacrusis released before their split up in 1993.

This release is much different from their early creation, the "Annihilation Complete" demo and the first full-length album "Suffering Hour." "Screams and Whispers" is most mature of all the Anacrusis albums; the raw speed and thrashiness of Suffering Hour has been replaced with really nice melodies and well thought out arrangements. There's no atmosphere to a usual thrash band, but this album has plenty of it - there's that glow around the music which brings up certain emotions to listeners. A lot of what's mentioned has been achieved with a new feature used on this album - orchestral hits (notice the huge influence of Celtic Frost's "In To the Pandemonium" album here, that has been stated by Ken Nardi himself in the band biography) and of course the unique vocals combined with brilliant twin guitar work.

Even like 3 years after my first listening "session" with this piece, I can't really measure how much I really like it. Once I retrieve it from the magic box of mine I spend days only spinning these eleven songs, then it takes like half a year to even touch it again. I know many people have the same thing with certain music but for me it's only like 2-3 bands. What I can tell though right at the beginning of this is that it's one of the most important progressive thrash metal release ever since it hit the stores.

This is:
1) the best album of 1993 ( vastly better than "Heartwork" and "Covenant" );
2) the best progressive thrash ever made;
3) most overlooked album in all metal history.

20 years ago I said "This is perfect !". Today I say "This is just ... geniously !!"

I recommend this recording to all who like strong, expressive, beautiful and excellent-recorded thrash with deep and meaningful lyrics ...

Best song - "Sound The Alarm"

the best album of 1993

I respect your opinion but I disagree. These two are classics:

Coroner - Grin
Voivod - The Outer Limits

I prefers Screams & Whispers by far over The Outer Limits and Grin (which imo is their weakest after RIP)

Not thrash at all IMO, but rather a great album in the progressive genre.

This certainly is thrash, albeit technical/progressive, but thrash nonetheless.

Indeed a great album. Their best for me.
I also like Manic impressions and Reason (both more than the debut).
But SAW -- as apposed to the other three -- does not have a single filler song IMO, albeit there are eleven songs in total. They are all good I think.
Release and Sound the Alarm stand out for me.

Funny thing is that I listened to these albums for the first time only a couple of days ago.
Apparently I had the band's entire discography sitting on my hard drive over the last 15 years or so.
If I recall correctly a friend recommented and gave them to me in Budapest back in 2003.
I totally forgot to check them out.
Then I stumbled over a thread here and found out that I had all their albums available only a couple of clicks away.
Been spinning them continously since then.

[...] but this is still awesome, its so sad it was bands last album(so far) but still is one fucking amstepice , underated

But why do you call it an 'amstepice' (I assume that's Swedish for 'masterpiece') and underrated, but yet rate it 6/10 only?

Ahh, okay.
I wasn't quite sure if you meant 'masterpiece' or 'hamster piss'.

Can't believe I am just listening to this now. What an amazing album. And so ahead of it's time. To me, this album is to thrash metal what Crimson is to death metal. Unorthodox, out of the box, and so unique. Not a bad song on here, and the pacing is perfect as well. Will probably never hear anything else quite like it, and I'm totally fine with that.

Haven't heard it in a few years, coming back to it it's still such a good record. Hasn't aged a bit. Few songs that could've been better, but the rest is stellar. Still too overlooked.
