Insomnium will always be a poor man's early-Amorphis to me ;]

Pffft, I like both

Being someone who began in that era it's not hard at all to see how the genre has fallen from grace.

I started really getting into metal around 2005 (started in 2004 but not actively) and must say even then I was able to see the lack of quality in the current melo-death scene. Dark Tranquillity were one of the few bands that kept my interest, and because of that I started researching and realized that metal had more to offer than just BFMV and DT.

A bit of nostalgia there, but it's still very easy for me to be objective about this band's work. Speaking of their work... I suppose I should check out this EP so I can actually comment on it and not just the band.

Bullet For My Valentine. I started with a lot of melodic metalcore (Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, etc.).

Oh..... Oh well, I can't say anything. I started with european power/symphonic metal.

Bleh. Basically a bunch of bonus material from We Are the Void. Waste of time, although the condensed running time makes it easier to get through.

Not bad, not great. Just hope for a new album soon and much better songs.

The video for Zero Distance is one of the rare metal videos out there worth a darn though. Sundin is a bloody talented dude.

Did someone horribly mentioned "Dream Theater" as a cheeky metaphor?

Do we need to? I think they've cleared it out themselves quite nicely.
