Tracks 1-5 were recorded at Soundcheck in Birmingham, May - August 1989, without Paul Neville.
Tracks 6-10 were recorded at Square Dance in Derby, May 1989, with Paul Neville.
Tracks 11-14 are bonus tracks and were recorded for an EP called Tiny Tears that was never released.
Remastered and re-released in 2010 shipped with an extra disc with rough and original mixes from the Streetcleaner studio sessions, also rehearsal versions and live versions.

"Streetcleaner", to cut right down to it, is a thoroughly crushing, punishing, unforgiving, and unrelenting album. The album cover itself foreshadows the content within - about a dozen bodies strewn up on crosses against a napalm-colored haze background. The music within is every bit as bleak as that image. 2010 saw the Godflesh reunite for a (marred) performance at Hellfest, and saw Earache re-release a special 2cd anniversary version of this classic with remastered versions of the original tracks on one disk, and unreleased mixes and live versions of the same track order on the second disk.
Whether the original Streetcleaner or the MMX reissue, it's a slow, crushing, claustrophobic, bleak, and asphyxiating album that will leave you roadkill.

The only Godflesh album i enjoyed thoroughly, thoroughly being quite a bit. The others just felt too clean, but I've only listened to each about twice so i might have to run back through them all

Too much industrial, or a primarily industrial focus is a tad off-putting for me (usually). However, when you mix industrial with other genres, I find that wonderful things can happen.

Holy crap, that Fall of Because stuff is awesome. They/he should've stuck with that sound, I much prefer it to Streetcleaner and co. And I love Streetcleaner.

This album rocks. Punishing and claustrophobic. Just repetitive enough to build atmosphere and not get boring. Awesome bass tone.

Yep it's bone crushingly heavy and the industrial sound is unforgiving. It's the perfect sound track to what it must have been like during Birmingham or Manchester's age of industrial revolution, nasty stuff!

I always love being reminded of this monolithic beast of an album. This is the standard that all other industrial albums set themselves against.
