A little list series where I list my top 20 favorite metal albums every year starting from the year I was born in.
2001 was pretty great year... for metal that is, one of the best in my opinion, this year was especially great for Symphonic metal, power metal and Folk metal. Also 2001 saw the release of a couple of the most Iconic albums in progressive metal history. My favorite non metal albums of 2001 1. Discovery By Daft Punk (French House, Disco, Dance-Pop)  2. Origin of Symmetry By Muse (Alternative Rock, Space Rock)  3. The Argument By Fugazi (Post-Hardcore, Art Rock)  4. Is This It By The Strokes (Garage Rock, Indie Rock)  5. White Blood Cells By The White Stripes (Garage Rock, Alternative Rock)  My favorite movie from 2001

One of the last great years for metal, if you ask me. Not among the top, top years of all time but there are a handful of very important albums for me. There are not so many very strong albums following up but there are several really good ones. Well, anyway, I cannot think of a later year with so many important releases in my books, my top ones are: 1. Opeth - Blackwater Park 2. Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame 3. Mourning Beloveth - Dust 4. My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours 5. Ensiferum - Ensiferum 6. Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness 7. The Elysian Fields - 12abLAZe 8. Falconer - Falconer 9.
