1993 Focus is a mix of great music with Death Metal writing by Paul Masvidal, Sean Reinert . Cynic recorded Focus. The result was an album combining death metal with other influences, notably jazz. Instead of choosing the brutal and hard-hitting approach to metal like most of their contemporaries, Focus takes an experimental stance to music.

2015 Coma Ecliptic involves a man stuck in a coma, journeying through his past lives. It was added that the man faces a choice to either stay or move on to something better. Each song is its own episode in a fashion similar to "The Twilight Zone" Eclectic Progressive, Death Metal,Ambient, Extreme Metal Every record of this band its amazing.
20. Mastodon - Leviathan
2004 It is Mastodon's first concept album, loosely based on the 1851 novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The songs "Iron Tusk", "Blood and Thunder", "I Am Ahab" and "Seabeast" were released as singles. Three magazines awarded the album Album of the Year in 2004: Revolver, Kerrang! and Terrorizer. In 2009 and 2015 MetalSucks named Leviathan the best metal album of the new century.

25. Katatonia - Last Fair Deal Gone Down

2003 Gordian Knot Progressive super band directed by bass guitarist Sean Malone ( Cynic) At times its shifting lineup included Steve Hackett of Genesis, Bill Bruford of King Crimson and Yes, Ron Jarzombek from Watchtower and Spastic Ink, as well as Jim Matheos of Fates Warning, several of Malone's former bandmates from Cynic, and John Myung from Dream Theater.

Yeah I find it pretty fascinating how diverse metal really is! One can only appreciate all the fine nuances and variations if one explores further and dives deeper into all the subgenres!
