Kireg - Patrick Bateman e.p. should be on this list. No need to tell you what film the samples are from

In the first half of Endtime.
I'll try to not be very specific in the descriptions... Because I think it's way more interesting to discover them.

I knew Lurker of Chalice would be here the moment I saw the list name and author
For some reason I really love the sample at the end of this song. I have no idea where it is from but the one who speaks sounds a lot like the actor who plays Galen in the various Babylon 5-related stuffs in which he is in, and I fucking love Galen. The sample itself sounds quite Babylon 5-ish but I don't remember this exact speech happening anywhere.

Why not? In my opinion it would be far better to also list the songs because to me it's also unclear which samples you're talking about in case of certain albums that I know very well (like The Mantle).
That being said, definitely an interesting and original list. I will try to come up with suggestions, but that isn't very easy for a list like this.

Let's compromise: I'd have no problem commenting them here. But I wont put them up there based on stylistic reasons (I just preffer to comment on the overall feeling so to speak)... Like I said, I think it's way more interesting to discover something on your own than by just knowing the exact place of the sample. Naming the album is enough... Also, some albums have various samples throughout the whole album... Won't waste my time writing the name of all the tracks (Lurker Of Chalice for example has samples in basically half the album).
About The Mantle: the song in particular is "The Hawthorne Passage".

Ah I see. Well, I see what you mean but I can't say I agree. And I did suspect it's The Hawthorne Passage, which you now confirmed.

So by samples you mean, movie samples?
I could also take this to mean samples they the band triggers from a laptop/drum trigger when they play live, that just enhance the overall sound of the album.

Fantômas? Was also hoping to see Tool or DJ Shadow... Four more good+ songs come to mind, some of which may be hard to find... Necrophagia (Deathtrip 69), Zirconium (Tranquil Sky (local demo from who knows when)), Cathedral's Hopkins (vid from '95 should be easily accessible) and Benighted (Collapse around 2006). Also Aborted's 2003 vid Meticulous I... though that's probably not substantial enough to put on the list. More of their ilk.. Trepalium (first video), Cephalic Carnage, Carcass/ Impaled

Considering the list has movei samples (The Hawthorne Passage f. ex.) as well as "Distant chants, hopeless patriotic songs, scraping iron, the sound of bullets and tanks tearing apart the earth, and the desolate wind that is left after everything is dead." probably I'd say both . I think he just means non-musical effects that enhance the music.

DJ Shadow
DJ Shadow uses a shit load of samples, but that's coz he's a DJ.
I think Rod's talking mostly just metal related releases.
I'd say
The Monolith Deathcult's Trivmvirate
Church of Misery's albums
From Monument To Masses (it's a bit overused though)
Maybeshewill

This is basically what I'm going for.

Yes, it must be metal related... Just because otherwise this would be waaaay too long for my tastes. Also, I must dig both the music and the sample itself (hence why I didn't inluce Marcel's recommendation since I loved the American Psycho smaples but hated Krieg's EP).

Recs shall be considered as long as they meet the basic criteria. So sorry, no Maybeshewill... I do agree with you though, those guys are great. I loved their sample of Network (Woburn House used the same as well).
Syk, if you could be extra specific for Trepalium, Cephalic Carnage, Carcass, Tool, Fantomâs, and Impaled (which album?) that would be dandy. You don't need to post the song names though. I like discovering them on my own!

They are a tricky one tbh... I shall revisit their debut because you kind of wonder if the sounds are made by the band if they really took them from somewhere else outside the band if you get my point.
Then again, no point in being so strict (for example, I don't know if the guys from The Amenta asked someone to do the female voice or if it is from somewhere else)... This is just for fun anyways!

Fantômas is the Cordia album from 10 years ago, (&?) maybe the one before that. Um... just to be clear, is this mainly about stuff with more than one [short] sample in a song (like the intros for Kataklysm's album openers (e.g. Shadows & Dust))?

Katatonia's Brave Murder Day has only one sample. That should answer your question. The only critaria for me is:
- It's metal
- I like the sample.
- I like the music.
That's it.

Alright, that's good. Here we go... (possibly Rush 1976's 2112 / Alice Cooper's BDB from '73)
Metallica - 1984 RtL. I've always loved FFwF, the siren in "Escape" and the wind in "The Call of Ktulu" (also MoP's laughing outro and the masterpiece tracks 4 & 7 on AJFA in '88)
Candlemass - 1986
Carcass - first two or three albums
Asphyx - 1991 The Rack
Deicide - 1992 Legion
Anathema - 1995 The Silent Enigma (potentially also Paradise Lost Gothic... MDB?)
Cathedral - 1995 (oh - Sabbath? 1970, 1971 intros...) (and for samples at the same time as music, Cathedral '02 closer "Halo of Fire" + "It's All So Real" on 8 Foot Sativa's debut)
Cephalic Carnage - 2000 at the least
(Katakly as mentioned above, all intros from 2000 on. That first one was the longest/most substantial while Epic and Dust may have/be the best)
Children Of Bodom? - Follow the Reaper
Tool - 2001 Lateralus and I believe track 10 at the minimum on 1996/7's album
Impaled - 2002 Mondo Medicale, perhaps others
Fantomas - 2004, maybe others
Maniaca and/or Cryptopsy... at least the former's intro to track 5... along with late appearances for <u>Kekal - all 2005
also if you can find it, the last demo before Altar split up (specifically "God Is a Lie" works great!) in 2007 (more antiChr? Vital Remains, same year)
You may also want to see what's on MS' Videos pages for Disillusion, Brutal Truth, Trepalium and Genghis Tron
And I will be interested to see if anyone talks about Ephel Duath
edit for the 37th time, just a few more: Zao - end of All Else Failed, W.A.S.P.'s 1984 debut, Venom - Prime Evil (wasn't it '89?) and self-titled Queens Of The Stone Age from 2000. Oh, and how could I forget, last track on Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness, probably the best of the lot! Though that may be just sound effect, as opposed to a sample... a great speech sample does start up Heathen's VoD (1991)
edit for the new year - underlined a handful that just would not be the same w/o th' sample[s] (thanks Rodney) ... ... plus... IM NOTB?!

I approve of this list... vigorously.
I myself recommend:
Fear Factory - Demanufacture ("They only lived to face a new nightmare: A war against the machiinnneess...")
White Zombie and their cubic buttload of samples
Strapping Young Lad - City
Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip
Nailbomb - Point Blank (HATE IS REALITY!)
Impetigo - Horror Of The Zombies
Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake (The sample in title track)
Buzz*Oven - ...At A Loss
Toxik - Think This (The TV samples in between each song)
Hell - Human Remains
Sabaton - The Art Of War (Love those quotes from the actual book itself)
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes (Real Eyes, Real Lies, Realize. That is all.)
