They weren't perfect, but who is live?
It wasn't anything so bad to grab my attention... you're supposed to be enjoying the music, not analysing whether the guy is singing it exactly to the album version or not.

Next band: Amorphis. Only they fucked the question up. The album is called "Skyforger" and not "Scyforger". But hey...

Wacken the best line-up thus far? You gotta be kidding me. That's oonly the case if you're into German bands, or to be more specific... into Euro Flower Power bands. Way too many of those there already, the good bands up to now don't outweigh those at all imo
Considering it's a Wacken lineup it's quite a good lineup actually. If they had presented this as their anniversary lineup, nobody would have complained. They already got the likes of Maiden and Crüe, Immortal, Corpse, W.A.S.P., the 30th anniversary show of Grave Digger and Arch Enemy. Last year at this point they had close to no confirmations, mostly trendy bands on the billing and only (ab)used the name of the brand "Wacken" as selling point. I don't think you can make much of a mistake buying your tic for Wacken 2010 if you enjoyed Wacken 2009 already.

[insert other festival than Wacken] just got owned.
my guess is that the guys at Wacken realized that Hellfest, Sonisphere and Graspop are rapidly catching up with their ticket sales and that their #1 spot in the field of metal festivals isn't as secure as it was 3-4 years ago, so now they want to compete more aggressively with them.

Meh. Slayer. Why can't they confirm some more crappy bands? I don't have anything to complain about anymore

Slayer is a good live band, but once again a band everyone has seen a million of times. SO another boring addition.

How the hell did other festivals get ownde by Wacken booking Slayer? Slayer is a band that has played all the festivals loads of times already and almost all metallers have at least seen a couple of times. So once again, like I just said, another immensely boring addition. Still Wacken's line-up is immensely dire cause it holds no surprises whatsoever. Wacken is becomeing more boring by the year and more predictable, and as safe as fuck. Not a festival where you can discover anything new... oh wait Metallers don't want to discover anything new, they just want the same established boring bands over and over and over again.

man, i should just post a standard "imo, " right before every post i forgot to add that it's from my point of view.. in the lineup for next year i haven't seen anything on the bill and having many high-ranking bands(IN MY PREFERENCE TOP!!) play is what i got a hard-on from.
so... LET THE HATIN BEGIN because i don't care

I can understand you being happy with it seeing you haven't seen that many bands, yet.
My post wasn'tdirected at you but at alll those people that have been to numerous festivals and concerts.

The only thing that's bugging me now, is which band will be announced on the 24th... To headline alongside Slayer and Maiden... Priest ? Metallica ? Or maybe a band brought back from the dead ? Strange strange strange

Priest will likely concentrate on producing/performing the Nostradamus special show(if they still have that in mind, their website doesn't yield anything), Metallica is far too expensive..
i'd say it's gonna be a co-headliner on the day with Motley Crue, i guess some other relatively well-known band, my money is on the following: Blind Guardian, Children of Bodom, Megadeth, Iced Earth(yes pleeaassee ), Helloween, Cradle of Filth, Anthrax, Dio, Scorpions(yes pleeeasse ), Alice Cooper, Queensryche, Therion..
i know, way too many "monsters" in my enumeration but if they're making such a fuss about the 24th announcement it must be worth it right?

MOtley Crue headlining? That is hilarious. Yes, I know they did at Hellfest last year as well and it was a disgrace. Cuase it was clear that that day heaven & Hell should have been the headliners due to status (although Heaven & Hell's performance was mediocre, but still infitely superior to Motley Crue's)
A headliner should be a BIG band and Motley Crue wer only big in the US and England. And Motley Cure nowadays aren't anything near the size in popularity they once were.
Megadeth have every right to be headliner of Motley Crue. Way mor epopular than Crue

Hm Dio is unlikely now that he's sick... Scorpions played in 2006 and I fell asleep while standing in the 17th row... Children have been there wayyyyyy too many times in the past years... I'm not a huge fan of Cradle, but the other bands can come whenever they like but don't get your hopes too high, I bet it will be some nonsense band for the 24th...

well, they said exactly this: "now it is time to announce another topact, Motley Crue!"
i don't know if "topact" means "headliner" for them, but that's my supposition.

Wacken don't need to compete... at all. From an economic point of view, their position is as safe as can be. They still have the biggest market share and are still the #1 player in the market... no matter what. Everybody knows Wacken, tells about Wacken, and does everything that is humanly possible to go to Wacken. To be there. Wacken is a very strong brand name. The fact they don't even need to line up something remotely adventurous and still sell out all tickets about 200 days before the opening of the festival, is the ultimate proof of that.
In fact, the biggest mistake Wacken could make is competing aggressively. Besides, announcing the addition of Slayer, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Primal Fear and whatnot is not even close to behaving aggressively. They just do what people expect them to do: announce safe, established names that are relatively well-known to almost everybody.
And I really don't see any reason why Wacken should change that strategy. Besides, nowadays there are a lot of alternative, albeit smaller events where people can discover the lesser-known gems (like Roadburn, which also sold out pretty fast).

shit, you're right. i was thinking about Sonisphere trying to take over but then i remembered they don't have open-air festivals(as in, with a campsite and stuff)

Hell, of course that sold out fast. Only 2600 tickets abvailable and many one-off reunions and special shows. SO that's no surprise. This year it sold out in 28 minutes (that was the three-day Thursday, Friday, Saturday ticket, and thank god NO day tickets available) and the Afterburner on Sunday sold out in 8 minutes (only 500-600 can attend that)

Maybe you're misconceiving things. I've been a metal fan for the last ten years and have been to numerous concerts and festivals and have never yet managed to see slayer. Also I'm kinda counting on the big festivals to bring the bands to me that I otherwise wouldn't pay money for or that don't tour that often if at all. So Slayer in Wacken is perfect for me. I've always wanted to see them but never enough to buy concert tickets.
Yeah, same here. I've always deemed a Slayer ticket to be too expensive in relation to my interest in them. So I've only seen them once and that was because I got the ticket for free. So I'm definitely fine with them at Wacken.
