I don't see here one of my favorite DM albums:
Demigod -
Slumber of Sullen Eyes - check it out if you haven't heard it before
Also, as you rank
Nile's
Annihilation of the Wicked so high here, I think you should know that Nile has grown on me immensely in the last couple of days
I had heard parts of
In Their Darkened Shrines maybe about a year ago when I was scouring for new bands on YouTube. I liked the idea of Ancient Egyptian themed metal, but it was way too intense for me at the time.
Now that I've discovered a lot more old school death metal, I've gotten used to the deep growls and over the last few months I sporadically listened to one Nile song in particular: "Cast Down the Heretic". While it first seemed like a nonsensical barrage of noise, something about the intensity intrigued me - and I always found myself coming back to it. Finally, after many listens I absolutely love that song!
Now, I've returned to trying to listen to their full albums - and I'm blown away!
Annihilation and
Shrines have quickly become some of my favorite DM ever and my initial impressions of their first two albums are also good. I've read that they are deemed as a very consistent band, so I look forward to exploring more of their albums. Do you recommend any in particular?
