Having to queue, sometimes for ages, to get into the arena area was fucking stupid. They could have at least put a canopy or something over it to stop people burning to death in the sun from standing there with no shade. I also don't get the point of the beer token thing which just means twice as much queueing and I wasn't too happy with all the band time changes. That being said it was a great fest, and The Ruins of Beverast were the only musical disappointment.

never got the token thing either - and half-ones were worse than usual.
As for Ruins, can't say. I slept while they played (a bit exhausted from an empty-stomach, dust-fest violent mosh-pit during Lofofora)

Aye there seemed to be quite a few exhausted people. I managed to keep going until Opeth right at the very end, though I did sleep through the first two tracks.

which were as great as the rest. Really surprised by how heavy and good this show was, been a while since Opeth have been that great live!

That was the third time for me, and it was easily the best, though the other two times were no slouches either. Probably had the best sound of any band I saw over the weekend.

The Ruins of Beverast were the only musical disappointment.

Really ? I thought they were quite good thanks to the decent sound. Maybe it's coz I had low expectations for them after the last time I saw them (where they were amazing, so didn't think they would do anything better).

For me, Gehennna was disappointing. What a shit sound and boring as hell show. Other than that, all I wanted to see performed from decent to mind-blowing (especially Emperor/Vreid/Tsjuder), but I missed a few bands I wanted to see coz I was too tired/drunk or lazy to get up in the morning
Also was very sad for Urfaust cancelling and pissed off coz of the Godflesh time changing and the fact it was not announced at the info point so I missed them.... fuck that !

I tried standing in 3 different places and nowhere could I find a point where I could hear anything other than bass and drums. A couple of others had the same issue. I quite literally had no idea what song was being played at any point other than being able to pick out a few sample bits.

I watched about half a song of Gehenna and it was pretty boring.

I missed Vried, mostly because I was under the impression it would be Vreid only stuff which I'm not interested in, but on the way back from seeing some of Clisson I heard some Windir so I wouldn't minded seeing that. I heard Emperor while walking around but I spent most of it at Solstafir, who were pretty excellent. Was also annoyed about Urfaust; I think they would have sounded pretty immense so I hope to get to see them at some point.

I was lucky that someone told me about Godflesh's time change, and I managed to catch about 4 songs. It was pretty fucking fantastic and the tent was totally empty. Really glad I saw it.

SubRosa, Electric Wizard and Opeth, along with Godflesh were the bands of the weekend for me, but Obliteration, Soilwork (yeah, I still like Soilwork), Ulcerate, Blockheads, Benighted and Dordeduh were also pretty damned good too. A few other weren't bad and others I couldn't actually see on the mainstage like Soundgarden, Alterbridge and Deep Purple sounded nice to. Sabbath didn't sound great though. Ozzy isn't really cut out for it anymore and just ended sounding a bit senile at points.

I didn't miss too much. I had to miss Gorguts as I made the mistake of taking out my contact lenses and they wouldn't stop streaming so had a to leave, and apparently Nile were incredibly good, so I would have liked to have seen them be good for a change.

Godflesh time changing

saw that on the TV in Hellfest village, while coming back after 3 Kvelertak songs. Was dead tired but I turned around and headed right to the Valley.
And that Godflesh show was downright scary. Fucking impressive and totally erased the disappointment the 2010 (or 2011?) show was

Does anyone know what happened at the Soilwork show? It went really quiet and then everyone cheered, and I thought I caught a glimpse of someone in a bath robe or something on stage. Bjorn said something like "Well that's never happened at a metal gig before" and they took about 10 minutes with sound crew doing something before they started back up again.

Man, that makes me even sadder... everyone that saw them says they were so good.

As for TRoB, I was standing at the sound table and could hear everything clearly (maybe not the first song, that was a mess ), except for the lead guitar that was a bit low, but that was constant during the whole fest for 90% of the bands....

wasn't there all the time, so I'm not sure, but it might be the moment when Bjorn passed right THROUGH the stage - or so I was told anyway...

My first time at this and I thought it was amazing. Eluveite was the best gig for me (even though I'd never really listened to them before) because of how crazy the crowd were. Behemoth, Emperor and Phil Anselmo put on superb performances. Ecstatic I finally got to see Maiden, and Bl. Sabbath were just as jaw-dropping as when I saw them back in November.

Ye you can barely make out the best bits of the song in this

I think it sounds ok. You can listen all the instrument quite clearly (and for sure the sound quality worsens through a camera)

And if this is bad sound, you should check out the live version of 50 Forts Along the Rhine. Now that is a mess
