I'm a fan of Summoning and noticed Minus Morgul on your list which is a great album, I would also recommend Stronghold, and also Oath Bound and Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame are great albums too.

Nocturnal Silence - (Necrophobic), Melodic Black/Death Metal, same genre as dissection.
Day Into Night - (Quo Vadis), technical Death Metal, sounds very much like Death's later albums.
Imaginations From The Other Side - (Blind Guardian) - Epic power metal album as good as Nightfall In Middle-Earth.
Those Once Loyal - (Bolt Thrower), My favourite album by them, although you can't go wrong with anything by Bolt Thrower.
If you like old-school thrash then (Slayer) Reign In Blood and Seasons In The Abyss.
Damage Done - (Dark Tranquillity) classic perfect Melodeath album IMO, The Gallery is also a great album by them too.

No Slayer or Anthrax?

I find Raining Blood, Angel of Death, and South of Heaven are some of the best metal songs ever. But I don't like the rest of their songs. They're just fast, and I don't find them as interesting and nuanced as songs by Megadeth, Metallica, or even Sepultura.
As for Anthrax, I have to admit that I'm pretty clueless. I've only heard a few of their songs. Do you recommend any I should try?

If you find Slayer too fast, and prefer Metallica and Megadeth, the I would recommend (Exodus) - Bonded By Blood and (Testament) - The Legacy, if you don't mind longer thrash metal songs then (Overkill) - Years Of Decay is a good one. As for Anthrax I'm not too familiar myself, I have listened to Among The Living and I found it ok.

I'm working right now on a list of the best metal songs in my opinion.

That sounds good, I'm looking forward to seeing that.

Thanks. I'll limit myself to 2 songs per album. Otherwise I'll be writing down the entire discography of Death, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden haha

It's tough because there are so many great songs by those bands, good luck🖒

Very good list, lots of my favourite albums here.🖒

Thank you! Do you have any suggestions for albums I should add?

No Slayer or Anthrax?

Well, I've added Show No Mercy now! I just listened to it for the first time - and instantly fell in love! (I like it more than Reign in Blood - maybe it's because of the Judas Priest and Iron Maiden influence)

If I won't find certain album on your "album votes" list then Im gonna assume you didn't listen to that also I'll try not to recommend to many stuff since it may be overwhelming and I'll miss my point, but...
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes - basically the best thing to come out of finland except Demilich (which you should also check if you haven't yet), shitass long tremolo riffs, savage production, what else do you need.

Dutch death metal scene - Asphyx (Last One on Earth), Pestilence (Consuming Impulse) and Sinister (Diabolical Summoning) - my personal favourite scene. For Asphyx think Bolt Thrower with extra Death Doom Metal flavor, Pestilence started as death/thrash marriage to turn into one of the godfathers of technical death metal, and Sinister is your high quality oldschool death metal. Also very important persona in dutch metal involves Martin Van Drunen which many consider to be THE best death metal vocalist to ever exist.

For more Thrash metal I would recomend Morbid Saint (not to confuse with Morbid Angel) - Spectrum of Death, recorded in 1988 is some of the wildest shit from that time period. Even tho the vocals are harsh, the instrumental side keeps it from being death metal record, surprisingly memorable songwritting, one of my favorite thrash albums of all time.

For more recent stuff you can't go wrong with Blood Incantation, probably you heard about them or listened their stuff, since they are pretty popular even outside metal circlejerk groups. They released 2 albums so far so just pick the one that looks interesting to you.
Horrendous - do not start with their debut (not bad album, but not very interesting, especially when you look at the rest of their discography), they style changes from album to album, they experiment with some heavy metal, melodic death metal, and their latest album is very progressive oriented death metal, and perhaps my favorite from them. They know how to avoid some traps in modern tech death metal genre.
Demoniac - So It Goes, just recently discovered this album, so I'm not sure if it won't wear off in a month or something, but so far I'm pretty positive that I listened to entirety of it 20+ times and shit still rips. Some of the best thrash metal I've heard in a very very long time. Also the band is from Chile which only adds to the experience. Some people lose their heads that there is a clarinet solo, but who cares honestly.

So that's it for now, I'll be happy if you check even half of these bands, if you'll need any recommendation (this time anything, not just death/thrash metal), feel free to ask.

Yo! Thanks for the recommendations and long descriptions! You've made me interested in these bands before I've even listened to them. I have, in fact not heard of any of those bands you mentioned - lots for me to discover!
Yeah, my preference in metal is heavy, thrash, and death. I'm tentatively looking at black metal, but it's hard to find albums/bands where I like the vocals. So far the black metal that I enjoy is Storm of the Light's Bane, The Somberlain, At the Heart of Winter, Nocturnal Silence, and the Summoning albums. I tend to like black metal when it's mixed with death metal or thrash elements .
Can you recommend any black metal that I might like?

Yeah black metal is very subjective when it comes to vocals, can't promise that the bands I'll recommend will satisfy your taste in the vocals, you gonna have to give them a shot.

The most natural way to go would be Far Away From the Sun by Sacramentum, both bands are usually considered the pioneers of melodic black metal. The next I'd name pretty overlooked band "The Moaning", their album is more similar in style and direction to Dissection, but black to death metal proportions are tiny different.

Nocturnal Silence,

I don't know if you had dive in Necrophobic discography more, but if you didn't then you definitely must. After their classic debut, they changed their sound more into melodic black metal sound, so it's pretty likely that you will enjoy these. Their latest album released year ago was chosen by the metal storm community as the best Melodic Black Metal album from that year.

I tend to like black metal when it's mixed with death metal or thrash elements .

Wanted to say Bathory but I see you didn't liked very much their most famous album, I still think you should give a try to their other stuff, it's really worth it. Also try Destroyer 666, they made one of the very few great thrash albums during that horrible period when groove and nu-metal was taking over.

I think I should also mention some bands from different black metal subgenres, so you can expand more your perspective.

Mare Cognitum - cosmic atmospheric one man metal band with crazy beautiful tremolo picking, try his Phobos Monolith if you want more transcendental experience, or his latest album Solar Paroxysm if you want more polished and more accessible experience. This dude has crazy strong discography, same as the next band...

Enslaved - don't know what is your opinion on progressive metal, but nevertheless you should check them, one of the strongest discographies ever. Can't really tell which album is the best to start with, they made too much great records.

Moonsorrow - no one is better in folk/black than they are. Try with their earlier stuff and chronogically go up.

Alcest - if we ignore the black metal thing, this is still some of the best shoegaze I've ever heard. Try Souvenirs first. Shoegaze is kinda specific so it's understandable if you won't like them, but still you should give them a try.

Also I forgot to mention Mgła earlier, I think it's save to say that they are the biggest black metal band atm, didn't see them on your "votes list". The best album to start with is by far Exercises in Futility, both their most melodic and most acclaimed full lenght album. Very good production, and great nihilistic lyrics.

If you happen to know most of these bands then you can respond to me so I can recommend something else. Hope you'll enjoy some of them, and hope some of them will be among your favorite bands in the future. Stay strong

Those Once Loyal - (Bolt Thrower), My favourite album by them, although you can't go wrong with anything by Bolt Thrower.
If you like old-school thrash then (Slayer) Reign In Blood and Seasons In The Abyss.

I've added Those Once Loyal and Seasons in the Abyss to my list. Slayer has grown on me a bit more

They are both great albums, and bands I admire, Bolt Thrower and Slayer are both very unique in their genre's, It's good to see you starting to like Slayer more, they are proper old school thrash.
