Best Of 2022 Death Metal

Shieeet, here we go again...
Best death metal AD 2022 according to myself, listed alphabetically by band name with subgenres. Some notable omissions include: Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Decapitated, Fallujah, Lorna Shore, Omophagia, Paganizer and Temple Of Void. These left me a bit disappointed so I chose not to include them on the list proper, even though I enjoyed all the bands' newest albums. I'm also still catching up on a lot of records so this list will be updated semi-regularly. Hopefully you will find something you haven't heard here. Feel free to recommend stuff in the comments. Enjoy! Oh and as a side note, none of the genre descriptors are meant as derogative, I obviously enjoy all these bands and albums. Caverncore (or cavernous death) for example is meant as familiar in sound/style to a band like Cruciamentum or Chthe'ilist.

Great list! It's always good to see lists narrowed down to genre's, there was some very solid death metal releases last year

If I was to create a top 10 list of death metal releases from 2022 from favourite down it will probably be this: 1. An Abstract Illusion - Woe (Melodic/progressive death) 2. Aeviterne - The Ailing Facade (Experimental death) 3. Mother Of Graves - Where The Shadows Adorn (Death doom) 4. Jade - The Pacification Of Death (Atmospheric/death doom) 5. Strigoi - Viscera (Death) 6. Psycroptic - Divine Council (Technical death) 7. Hath - All That Was Promised (Death) 8. Dream Unending - Song Of Salvation (Death doom) 9. The Spirit - Of Clarity And Galactic Structures (Melodic death) 10. Immolation - Acts Of God (Death)

Im not finished exploring it all yet but out of those I don't already know there's 2 big highlights so far which are Miscreance and Obsidious.

Written by Guib on 26.07.2023 at 17:06 The track "Bound by Fire" from the Obsidious album ended up as my 2nd most listened to this year as I got into them late in 2022. First is "Sempiternal Beings" from Haken, very different metal but prog/technical too.
