There is a lot of nice stuff here.
I understand that you have applied no particular rules, such as one album per band or one album per year.
We just see your favourite albums since 1976 and their distribution over time.
What I find interesting is that you have 27 favourite albums over the past 19 years and almost twice as many between 1980 and 1999.
I cant tell you my number for this ratio (1980-1999 compared to 2000-2019) from the top of my head but I bet it is at least 2:1, probably higher.
So tell me is it that you are an older vintage, stuck in the 80s/90s (just like me), or do you just not find as many favourite albums recently any more (just like me).
Yes, to choose just one album per year is not good for me: there have been years full of great stuff and other years poor of memorable albums. For the same reason I had decided to not choose only one album for each group. In this list there are all the albums in my collection I rated 9 or 10!
I listen to metal for 30 years
... I've started with Scorpions, Def Leppard, Queensryche, Motley Crue, etc, then I followed the power metal of the 90's (Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray and so on), fell in love with gothic (Anathema, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Moonspell etc) and in the last years I started to appreciate more the melodic death and black metal generes.
But I think that now quantity is beyond quality (intended as "great ideas", not as " great musicianship"), and I hardly find really memorable albums...
