On a side note, I like your list! I agree with most of it.

Actually, the 2010's is 2010-2019 and the 202nd decade is 2011-2020. So if you're saying best of the decade you could be referring to either decade.
And since no one is saying "best of the 202nd decade", but rather "best of the 2010's" they are still technically correct.

Unsurprisingly, this is the best of list that's got the most crossover with mine (and features a lot more stuff that didn't make my list but was either in contention, or was something I still like quite a lot). Surprised you chose Children Of The Night over Formulas Of Death, but this is a damn solid list otherwise.

The one that really jumps out at me is Portal... how can this be! I think it's on another best of the decade list too.

It's probably my favorite Portal release since Outre.

My list was sort of made on the fly, so I did look over a few other MS lists for stuff I would include in mine, your list included. FoD might be objectively the better album, but I find myself listening to CotN much more often.

I have listened to 26 albums of this list, the maximum matches of all these decade long lists. There's still so much to listen to.

Actually I disagree with both RaduP and ZafÞ! A "decade" is not a mathematical concept, it is an arbitrary calendrical concept. I think we can simply look at common usage and see that the 2010s was a decade, and is overwhelmingly treated as such. So claims to the contrary are simply mistaken about what a "decade" is. It just so happens that the first decade CE only had 9 years.
(Cool list too.)

You are "disagreeing" with the definition of a decade.
From Merriam Webster:
Quote:
Definition of decade
1 : a group or set of 10
// his prisoners were divided into decades? William Godwin : such as
- a : a period of 10 years
// has been teaching for over a decade
// the decade of the twenties
- b Roman Catholicism : a division of the rosary that consists primarily of 10 Hail Marys
2 mathematics : a ratio of 10 to 1 : order of magnitude
Regardless of mathematics, it's a group of 10 years. So yes, the 2010s (2010-2019) was a decade, but so is 2011-2020.

No, that's 2021-2030 in which no music has been released yet so it would be quite hard to make a top list of that decade.

Well, what else would we disagree with or about than definitions? There's no reason why a definition in a dictionary couldn't be bad. It is not a thesis in the history of calendars. (Although in this case, there's nothing exactly wrong with what you quoted; it just doesn't cover all nuances in actual contexts.)
By your application of the word, the third decade of the millenium (if, by your count, the millenium begins 1.1.2001) would be 2003-2012; that is the third period of ten years in the millenium (if we don't count half-years and smaller units)!
Yes, a decade can be any period of ten years (when talking about a person's age, for instance), but in the contexts of calendars it refers to specific groupings of ten years. When in natural language we say that the decade changes, we mean that the tens digit changes. Otherwise we'd be celebrating the end of the decade every New Year's - certainly a decade changes every year, but not the calendrical decade.
Wikipedia reports a poll conducted among Americans:
Quote: A YouGov poll was conducted on December 2, 2019, asking 13,582 Americans whether the following decade would begin on New Year's Day 2020 or New Year's Day 2021. Results show that 64% of Americans answered the next decade will begin on January 1, 2020, and will end on December 31, 2029 (the cardinal range). 19% of the Americans surveyed replied they are unsure, while 17% answered the next decade will begin on January 1, 2021, and will end on December 31, 2030 (the ordinal range).[5]
So 64% to 17% (and I would bet good money that of those 17%, several percent would have said 2020 if they weren't alerted to both options in a poll.) That is conclusive: in the case of a non-specialist term, it is simply not possible for all those people to be wrong, because the word's meaning is its usage. I am aware of the arguments for both kinds of calculation, and I remember the debate raged much more heatedly at the turn of the millenium. There's a logical case to be made for the "ordinal" approach, but it simply didn't convince the majority.
