Please feel free to suggest more (preferentially MS listed) metal/hard rock band examples for this list. The group that had inspired the band name may stem from metal or any other music genre.

I had created a list about the topic of band names influenced by the work of other bands before: “Metal Songs And Albums That Inspired The Names Of Other Bands”. This first list focused on metal/hard rock album titles, song titles or song lyrics that influenced the names of metal/hard rock bands. Thus, this list shows the "source of inspiration". This recent list has a complementary approach and focuses on the bands that were inspired by others. I thought this would be the more usual way to search for information on a band of interest. Moreover, this list can also include bands that took their inspiration from a band outside of metal or from other band-related aspects than songs or albums. Therefore, this new list is not an update but a complementary approach. However, if a suggestion is made that could qualify for both lists, I would update both lists with the corresponding focus on the suggested example.

Addendum: List of incorrect associations DINNER AUF URANUS (formed 2010 by Nocte Obducta members) was NOT directly inspired by the song "Dinner Auf Uranus" by Nocte Obducta (album: Umbriel (Das Schweigen Zwischen Den Sternen), released 2013). However, the term "Dinner Auf Uranus" was one of the possible names the group members came up with when they searched for their original band name, before agreeing on Nocte Obducta. GODSMACK was NOT inspired by the song "God Smack" by Alice In Chains (album: Dirt). MACHINE HEAD was NOT inspired by the Deep Purple album of the same name. MAKE THEM SUFFER was NOT named after the Cannibal Corpse song (album: Kill). PSYCHOTRON was NOT inspired by the song "Psychotron" by Megadeth (album: Countdown To Extinction).

I guess Groza deserve a mention, given their name is taken from Mgła's first album Groza and their early work pays a lot of tribute to Mgła's. And in the same way, Black Horizons have taken their name from the first song of Dissection's The Somberlain and their work is also a tribute to early Dissection.

I was also wondering about this, but the song was not a direct inspiration for the band name. Sully Erna talked about this in an interview with Gabriella from NYROCK magazine in October 1999. While explaining his neo-pagan religion Wicca, he also talked about the band name origin: ERNA: "We respect every other religion because we think all gods and goddesses are the same. People just worship them in a different way. Wicca is often mistakenly associated with evil, but we believe in Karma and if we do something bad it comes back to haunt us, as a godsmack! ..." NYROCK: "Therefore the name is not from the Alice In Chains song?" ERNA: "That's where we picked the name from: I was making fun of somebody who had a cold sore on his lip and the next day I had one myself and somebody said, "It's a godsmack." The name stuck. We were aware of the Alice In Chains song but didn't really think much about it. It's a cool song and the name had meaning for us."

I know so many people like to say they were a Alice In Chains cover band and they took the name from their song. I know they were fans of the band but I never saw them as a cover band. Or the similarities that people like to point out.
