Haha well, what can I say other than that I simply am not a Sludge fan? But fair enough, I will look into your suggestions.

That being said, there's more sludge, just not under the "sludge" section. I can't have the same album twice on the list now, can I? For example, I had Dragged Into Sunlight in that section until Joe told me they're actually more death metal. I also have Regarde Les Hommes Tomber, Ortega and Mastodon here.

Dude, I didn't forget about them you know. Still have to listen to the whole album though. I really liked that song you linked (and a few others as well), even though the music is incredibly soft.

You're wrong about the genre though... I honestly don't see how you can call them atmospheric, neoclassical, post, folk and doom and NOT mention gothic, which is from what I've heard a huge part of the music. So this album will almost certainly be under the "Gothic" section in this list.

My first thoughts were that its not very metal, but there are a few moments on the album that are gothic and doomy, but most of it is neoclassical and atmospheric music.
I'm also trying to attempt to upload the full album to youtube as well. As its around 80 mins long, its taking a long time.

Ah I see. Maybe it's just that one track that sounded pretty gothic then... anyway, it would be great if you'd upload the album, seeing as (like you said) many tracks aren't on Youtube.

Well, since you already have a category for heavy metal and not one for hard rock I'd say heavy

Goddamn this list is long. I'm really glad you added genre categorizing, it was getting way too cluttered before that. Simple change made the list quite a bit better (now if only you would add non-MS albums)

It certainly could be shortened quite a bit (there's about 75+ albums I would remove), but I still think it's a nice way to introduce people to random bands.
Edit: Make that 150+ albums I disagree with, and I've heard nearly all of them

I know it's really long and I haven't added albums for months now. The reason is that I got kind of bored with lists in general, or at least updating them. I agree that categorizing them into main genres is better. I won't add non-MS bands for two reasons: 1. as I said I got bored with updating lists , 2. even with only MS featured bands it's already a very long list.

And as I told you before: you're exaggerating quite a bit with that statement, because around 350 debuts is hardly "pretty much every debut album out there". Yes, it might be too long for some people, but that's one of the reasons I categorized them into different genres.

Well, I can remember liking it enough to put it here, not to mention quite a few people kept recommending it, so I don't see the harm in including it. Not to mention the category Power Metal is damn tiny as it is, so for now I'm keeping it on the list.

How can a list like this be objective at all? If this was solely influenced by popular opinion as to what's a great debut, you'd have to include every pop album ever. I know that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I really can't see how this is objective? If you could explain that to me I'd actually be interested in seeing how you go about actually adding an album in an "objective" manner.

I like that you put arcturus , solefald and diablo swing orchestra on top . Great bands that made an impact on the music scene with their debut albums.

Thanks, but the list is ranked according to genre, so that's the reason they're at the top of the list.
