I was actually totally not sure where to put that album. Either in the "sludge" or "death" genre, but went with sludge because to me it sounded quite sludgy... disturbing sick album, that one. And now that album falls under the "death" category, the "sludge" section is even more pathetic. I guess Acid Bath is an essential in that genre, but I'm sure there are others, so let me know if that's the case.

The sludge element stems from the dirty guitar tone and feel of it mostly.

For sludge I'm sure there are hundreds of great debuts. Too many to remember from memory to be honest, especially as sludge comes in different forms like hardcore-driven sludge, blackened sludge, extreme sludge etc. Even thrashy sludge.

Nice, you've neatly ordered things here. One suggestion I have is, seeing as your list is quite long, dividing some of the genres into sub-categories (under death you might make a separate melodic death section, for example)
Slim pickings for Power metal debuts... I'll return with some suggestions you may like.

Well, I don't doubt the fact that there are many great sludge debuts. As sludge is pretty far from my comfort zone I'm only really interested in the essentials, like for example Acid Bath's debut. I don't really aim to find a ton of sludge debuts for this list, but I do feel the list needs more than just a couple sludge albums (yes, there's progressive sludge as well on here).

Thanks man. It was hard for me to decide which album belongs to which genre. I eventually decided to just throw everything that had a "progressive" tag in that section, and the same goes for "avantgarde". As you might have noticed, I didn't do the same for "symphonic" and "melodic" stuff. I know it's not consistent that way, but there's so much of those last two it didn't really feel right to me that way.

Anyway, your suggestion might be a good idea although to be honest I can't be bothered right now. I'm just glad I managed to rank the albums like I have them now. So I might do that in the future.

As for power metal debuts, don't worry about me liking them because I probably won't. That being said, I need some non/less-cheesy power metal on here, so I guess non-European power metal would be best then. But I'm totally at a loss when it comes to finding such debuts, so I'm counting on you (and others who feel like they can help).

Fair enough, I will give them a chance. Will check out at least a couple of songs from each album, or the whole album if I like it enough (which I don't think will happen often). And yeah, I have a couple of "progressive power" debuts here, so there's actually more power metal in the list than you'd think initially, but still not much at all of course. Oh, and I have to say Helloween's debut is one of the few power metal albums that I actually didn't totally hate, hahaha. That being said, I think I highly prefer progressive non-cheesy power over the regular power metal. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

I know that you persoannly don't like their "No help..." and also agree that their debut is weaker than that one. No worries that you consider the debut a bad album.
Also, you've heard a shitload of sludge and probably have higher standards than me when it comes to this genre. I don't deny that I probably get impressed too easily.

Knowing you're almost as big a black metal nerd as I am, I'm surprised you don't have this one yet. Granted, he released a bunch of demos beforehand, but this is the official debut.

Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it back then... or it was Marcel who influenced me by saying that debut is "extremely generic". Anyway, will listen to the album again and then decide whether to add it or not.

Compared to some of the other Leviathan albums, yeah, it is. Wrest's best is easily Massive Conspiracy Against All Life, I think, because of the great ambient touch of it. But The Tenth Sub Level is still pretty great in itself.

I listened to it again and while I'm totally not blown away by it (way too long of an album as well... I would've settled with 45 minutes but instead it's 71 minutes ), I liked it more than the first time and so decided to add it after all.

Yeah, but the difference is that I don't hate Van Halen at all (just not my cup of tea), while I do "hate" Guns N' Roses. So I don't think I'll add this one.

Please recommend other classic albums if you want them added. I've become more flexible in that sense, so I'm open to most suggestions.
